Office Policies

Here are some of our policies and practices at Port Warwick Pediatrics.

Calls During Office Hours

All patients/parents are encouraged to call with any questions. If you have a medical question, our staff will take your message, and Dr. Chris, Dr. Becky, or one of our nurses will return your call. For non-medical questions, our front office staff will readily assist you, and will gladly schedule any appointments as needed. You can request a well check-up or ask for a prescription refill on our website or by leaving us a voicemail during regular office hours. We will get back to you within two business days.

Calls After Office Hours

For urgent medical concerns after hours, you can call our office at (757) 873-8883, and our answering service will connect you to Dr. Chris or Dr. Becky.

Prenatal Visits

Choosing your baby's pediatrician is one of the most important decisions that parents make. Before your child is born, we encourage you to call our office and make an appointment with Dr. Chris or Dr. Becky so that we can answer any questions that you may have. Prenatal visits are free of charge, and can usually be scheduled after hours, Mondays through Fridays, from 5:00pm to 5:30pm.

For the safety of your child, no new medications will be prescribed without first being seen in the office. To refill a prescription, you can submit the Prescription Refill Form on our website or call the office during regular business hours to leave us a message. We will call you within two business days when your prescription is ready to be picked up. If your child is on regular medications, your child will need a yearly check-up so that we can assess the efficacy of the medication and monitor any side effects.

Medical Records

Medical records must be requested in writing. The transfer form must be signed by a parent or guardian.

Health Forms

We would be happy to fill out all types of school or activity health forms. However, in order for us to fulfill the requirements of these forms, your child must have had a well check-up within the past year. Please bring all of the forms with you during your visit, and give them to our nurse to fill out.

Dr. Chris and Dr. Becky are pro-vaccine pediatricians. We encourage parents to immunize their children according to the schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). If your child is under 18 years of age, then his or her legal guardian must sign their approval for the vaccines administered.

Insurance Plans

Each insurance plan is unique. Many plans have limits and/or exclusions that apply to your child's medical care. We recommend that you check with your particular plan in advance to find out which services are covered and how much your insurance company will reimburse you for medical expenses.

A list of the insurance plans that we accept can be found in our section about Insurance Plans Accepted.

Privacy Policy

At Port Warwick Pediatrics, we are committed to following all HIPAA guidelines and protocols, in order to protect the privacy and confidentiality of your health information. In accordance with this Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), we provide detailed information about our obligations and commitments regarding your privacy, as well as your rights regarding your private health information (PHI), in forms that are available at our office. A copy of the forms, signed by each patient's legal guardian, will be kept with our patients' medical records.
