What should I bring to my visit?

Please bring your current insurance card to every visit. This will help ensure that your claim is filed properly.

Co-pays are due at the time of your visit. If you have a co-pay, the person who brings your child to our office is responsible for paying the co-pay.

Please make sure that the Primary Care Physician on your insurance policy is listed as either Dr. H. Christopher Lim or Dr. Beckilyn Lim.

If I would like to transfer to Port Warwick Pediatrics, what do I need to do?

We welcome all new patients to our practice. To transfer your child to PWP, please do the following:
  • Confirm with your insurance company that our doctors are part of your health insurance plan (in-network). We are able to see patients that are not in-network at our practice; however, out-of-network plans prices for services will apply. Please contact your insurance company for details.
  • Some insurance plans require you to contact them and select a primary care physician (PCP). This must be done before being seen by either doctor to ensure that the insurance will pay for the services.
  • Call our office to notify us that you would like Dr. Chris Lim or Dr. Becky Lim to be your child's primary care physician.
  • Come to our office so that we can have you sign our incoming medical records request form. We will fax this form to your child's previous physician, so that we can receive a copy of your medical records and start taking care of your child.
  • You can also request your child's current physician to have your records released and mailed to our office.
When sending medical records, please specify your chosen pediatrician as Dr. Chris Lim or Dr. Becky Lim. 

Please make sure that your current contact information is included. After your records are released to PWP, our doctors will promptly review your records, and we will call you to schedule an appointment.

What is the doctors' policy on taking and returning phone calls?

During office hours, one of our staff members will take your message and forward it to the doctor. Depending on the question, Dr. Chris or Dr. Becky will determine whether it is best for one of them or one of our nurses to address your concern.

Who handles the phone calls when the office is closed?

If you have an urgent medical concern when our office is closed, you can reach Dr. Chris Lim or Dr. Becky Lim by calling our office number at (757) 873-8883, and our answering service will assist you.

Can I make an appointment on short notice if my child needs to see the pediatrician because of something urgent? 

Yes, for established patients. We have available slots throughout the day to accommodate appointments on a short notice. 

If my child needs to see specialists, will you coordinate care among all of the doctors providing treatment?

As part of our services, we help parents coordinate care with a specialist and other health care providers in accordance with your child's needs. We often work closely with other health care providers to help your child get the necessary treatment.

About Our Medical Practice

This sub-section has questions and answers concerning medically-oriented questions.

If I'm expecting my first child, what do I need to do if I want to come to your office?

If you are expecting a child, we have set aside time for you to meet Dr. Chris or Dr. Becky. We invite you to schedule a prenatal visit at our office before the baby is born, so that we can answer any questions that you may have. Prenatal visits are given free of charge, and can usually be scheduled after hours, from 5:00pm to 5:30pm Monday through Friday. 

Once I deliver my baby... what then?

Once your baby is delivered, please give us a call so that we can set up an appointment for a very important check-up and newborn follow-up visit at our office. The visit is usually scheduled within 1-2 days after your baby’s discharge from the hospital. 

Please remember to bring all of your baby’s hospital discharge papers to the first visit, so that our doctors can learn the important facts about your baby and your history. These can include details about your prenatal care, your baby’s delivery, and your baby’s feeding habits. We can also follow up on any concerns about jaundice, results of hearing tests, etc. Most importantly, we want to be able to answer all your questions regarding newborn care and to reassure you that your baby is healthy, happy, and doing well. We will be entering a new beginning with you, as your partners in advocating for the health and well-being of your newborn baby.

What is your policy on vaccines?

Dr. Chris and Dr. Becky are pro-vaccine pediatricians. We encourage parents to immunize their children according to the schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Parents who refuse to vaccinate their children are not a good fit for our practice.

How do you accommodate visits for acute illnesses?

We have same-day appointments available (for the days that we are open) should your child need to be seen. Please call our office, and we will be happy to accommodate you. Some acute illnesses are more serious and are best treated in an emergency room. Therefore, depending on the condition, we may suggest that you go to an emergency room for treatment.

How can I refill a prescription?

To refill a prescription, you can submit the Prescription Refill Form on our website or call the office during regular business hours to leave us a message. We will call you within two business days when your prescription is ready to be picked up. If your child is on regular medications, your child will need a yearly check-up so that we can assess the efficacy of the medication and monitor any side effects. 

Could you fill out my form for a physical, school, college, camp, etc.? 

We would be happy to fill out all types of school or activity health forms. However, in order for us to fulfill the requirements of these forms, your child must have had a well-check-up within the past year. You can bring all of the forms with you during your visit, and give them to our nurse to fill out.
